In the video performance Stereotypes – biographical notes (2020) by Sybill Häusermann, the artist’s hands can be seen slowly leafing through a calendar-like publication. The stamped statements that can be read in it follow a loose hypothetical biography and constantly deal with the ambivalent concept of the stereotype. Sometimes as a social shorthand that collapses complex content into a quickly graspable cipher, sometimes as a violently restrictive construct of social expectation, the work questions our relationship to self-image, group formation and language.

In der Videoperformance Stereotypes – biographical notes (2020) von Sybill Häusermann sind die Hände der Künstlerin zu sehen, wie sie langsam durch eine kalenderartige Publikation blättert. Die gestempelten Statements, die darin zu lesen sind, folgen einer losen hypothetischen Biografie und setzen sich stetig mit dem ambivalenten Begriff des Stereotyps auseinander. Mal als soziale Kurzschrift, welche komplexe Inhalte auf eine schnell erfassbare Chiffre kollabiert, mal als gewaltsam einschränkendes Konstrukt gesellschaftlicher Erwartung, befragt die Arbeit unser Verhältnis zu Selbstbild, Gruppenbildung und Sprache.
